Oshiomhole and the EDHA are Betrayals of Democracy – Abraham Oviawe
We received with dismay the news of the reinstatement of the two out of the four suspended local government chairman in EDO state. Although we ab initio faulted the procedure followed in their suspension, but were taken aback by the docility of the chairmen except for the Oredo Government Osaro Obaze who will forever be remembered in history for the resistance of the action of the governor in court which case is still pending in court.
Assuming though not conceding that the power of suspension was duly exercised by the Governor, it can only be proper that the commission of inquiry set up to investigate the allegations against the chairmen will do justice accordingly even though the governor will usually have his way of manipulating the report. This no doubt was the basis for our agitation that a civil society activist be drafted in the commission of inquiry.
We are particularly worried about the case of Egor where the suspended but now reinstated chairman Victor Enobahkare presided over the problem that have caused the workers pain to the extent that they have not been paid salaries for 12 months running. I had the privilege of perusing the report of the commission of inquiry who were indeed thorough and their finding far reaching where they recommended the removal of the chairman and the refund of millions of Naira diverted by him, his wife and secretary. Painfully, the governor being possessed by his taste for a puppet as successor have ask the EDHA who are forever tied to his apron string to reinstate him.
What therefore was the basis for setting up the commission when he knows that he will shut his eyes to the realities. Let me pause and allow Edo people to be the judge. Conscience is an open wound that only truth can heal it.
