65-year-old Mrs. Clara Uwaifo, retired headmistress of Uwelu Primary School Benin city, has been shot dead on Wednesday (15.03.2016) by Happy Agbangbanyan, a teenager and suspected  cultist and serial killer on Police list of wanted persons.

Mrs. Uwaifo retired from the civil service in August 2015‎. The pensioner was gunned down at about 3:00 pm by the entrance to her house at #27, Oviawe Street, off Upper Siluko Road, Ogida Quarters, Benin Cty

The deceased, who was a widow and formerly head teacher at Uwelu Primary School, met her brutal death while returning from the hospital where she had gone to see her daughter who had just put to birth.

When Urhokpota Reporters visited the scene of the crime on Saturday, sympathizers besieged the compound in mounful looks and many cursing the killer of the woman.

One of the granddaughters of the deceased (whose full identities will not be mentioned because of consideration for her personal safety), who allegedly witnessed the gruesome murder of the victim, told our sources that she saw everything. According to the prime witness, she was returning from school when she sighted her grandmother approaching the gate. She said she saw the suspect following her grandmother closely from behind.

The granddaughter further stated that she doubled up her steps to meet up with her grandmother in order to assist her with one of the bags she was carrying when the teenager pulled out a short gun from the pocket of his trousers and shot at the woman from behind.

The granddaughter was able to positively identify the suspect as the son of their neighbour whose family has been at loggerheads with the Uwaifos. She also alleged that members of the suspect’s family had threatened to kill the woman in the past and that the threat was reported at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Benin City, last year.
