Festus Alenkhe narrowly escapes kidnapping, whereabouts unknown

Ace broadcast journalist and crime watch presenter, Mr Festus Alenkhe, narrowly escaped death on Saturday when assailants suspected to be kidnappers broke into his house in Benin in a failed attempt to attack or kidnap him.

A senior news reporter with Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) Benin, Mr. Festus Alenkhe who was formerly Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Edo State branch, narrowly escaped death when some suspected gun men alleged to be kidnappers stormed his house in Benin city at about 8.00pm Saturday night.

The heavily armed men who stealthily arrived the house of the Uromi-born multiple award winning crime reporting expert, by neatly cutting the barbed wires on top of the fence in his house to enable them gain easy access into his house.

Luckily for the EBS staff and Red Cross volunteer, Festus Alenkhe was not at home when the suspected assailants stormed his house.

Urhokpota Reporter’s investigation reveal that the assailants were chased away by wild security dogs inside Alenkhe’s compound.

The dogs’ persistent barking attracted neighbours who then put calls to other neighbours and the area vigilante.

This charged situation forced the assailants to escape from the scene. Unfortunately, no arrest was made.

Further investigation by Urhokpota Reporters reveal that the matter has been reported at the Police station for further investigation.

As at press time, the whereabouts of Mr Festus Alenkhe is unknown. It is unclear whether Festus Alenkhe was taken away but reports available to Urhokpota Reporters indicate that Alenkhe was not at home when the security breach on his house occurred.

It would be recalled that Festus Alenkhe, a senior crime reporter with state owned broadcast station, Edo Broadcasting service (EBS), has been in the forefront of reporting high profile crime stories in Edo state and the country.

He has won so many awards in crime reports including an Award of Excellence from Edo State Police Command in February, 2016.

Other awards were from Police Community Relations Committee, Benin Area Command of the Force and a meritorious service award from the Military Catholic Chaplaincy, of St Patrick’s Military Catholic Church of 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Benin city., Edo state.

Festus Alenkhe is the presenter and producer of a popular radio/television Crime program called CRIME WATCH, apparently the most popular documentary programme on Edo Broadcasting Service stable.

Festus Alenkhe is also the author of a book titled “Crime Watch – A Security Mirror of the Nigerian Society. The book x-rays the origin of crime and some high profile related cases in Nigeria.
