Prof. Edosomwan kidnapped and assassinated in Benin

An Octogenarian and a retired lecturer of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State allegedly kidnapped in his residence in Benin City has been found dead.

The body was found around Ogida Quarters in Benin as we hear from our Crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe.

The retired senior lecturer identified as Prof. Anthony Nosa Edosomwan was allegedly kidnapped in his house at second federal road around 6:30pm by unknown gun men in Benin City.

The assailants who wore mask allegedly scaled the fence of his house and have access to the Professor who was in the living room resting.

They first accosted the house maid where they went straight to the living room and pointed gun at the said Prof. Anthony Edosomwan.

They allegedly removed some valuable items, money and mobile phones before taking the professor to unknown destination.

The assailants were alleged to have ceased the professor’s Highlander Jeep which was used in taking him away.

Hours later, the gun men then established contact with the wife where they demanded for #50,000,000 (Fifty Million Naira) ransom. They allegedly gave deadline for the payment of #50,000,000 (Fifty Million Naira) ransom or have him killed.

Few hours later, the mobile phone used in the negotiation of the ransom was switched off.

The body of Professor Anthony Edosomwan was later found in a bush path at Upper Siluko road in Benin City.

The Body was recovered by the police and deposited in the Mortuary.

The Highlander Jeep that was used in taking him away was also recovered by the Police.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo confirmed that the culprits will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law adding that, the incident happened before his redeployment as police commissioner.

Professor Anthony Edosomwan first retired as a Director at the Edo State Arts Council and also lectured at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma before joining the University of Benin where he finally retired last year.
