Court docks man for defrauding journalist

AnOredo Magistrate Court, in Benin city, the Edo state capital, has docked a 32 year old man Raymond Obayuwana for stealing the sum of 3,500 euros belonging to ace journalist Festus Alenkhe, a crime reporter.

The money which was in cash and equivalent of One million, five hundred thousand naira, was sent from Europe through the said Raymond Obayuwana which he later claimed to be missing  same day the money got to him.

Following a tip off, the police arrested him and subsequently charged him to court for Stealing under section 390(9) of the criminal code, cap.49, volume 11, laws of the defunct Bendel state of Nigeria 1976 also applicable in Edo state.

DuringDuri arraignment, the police prosecutor  ASP Ada Johnbull opposed the defense counsel for bail.

The Magistrate, P.E Foy- Yamah however granted bail to the accused with a surety from the Civil Service of level 10 and above with 300,000 naira in like sum.

The surety must be resident in Benin city and to provide proof of residence.

The case has been adjourned to 12th of March, 2018 for hearing.
