Uncle of man whose death was caused by Police dies of hypertension, tension mounts in Ewu
Information reaching Urhokpota Reporters indicate the uncle of late Shettima Zekeri also known as David, the man whose death occured Tuesday in Benin City allegedly caused by the Police indiscretion, has died of hypertension.
The uncle of the deceased who is from Oniha Quarters of Ehanlen-Ewu, Esan Central LGA of Edo State, died Friday morning at Ewu, few hours after returning from Benin where he led the delegation of his family to confirm the tragic death of their son.
Unfortunately, according to eyewitnesses who spoke to Urhokpota Reporters, when he came back, he couldn’t survive the shock occasioned by his nephew’s death.
The deceased are both from Ehanlen Oniha of Ewu in Esan Central LGA of Edo State. They are related to the popular community leader known as Madam Rainbow at Ehanlen Ewu.
Tension has started to mount in Ewu as the community people and youths are incensed against the deaths too many allegedly caused by the Police. Last year the military shot an Ewu youth for protesting Fulani herdsmen killing of two Ewu women.
Although Governor Obaseki promised the young man an artificial leg and financial support, investigation by Urhokpota Reporters indicate that as at Press Time, that promise has not been fulfilled by the Edo State governor.
Meanwhile Governor of Edo State has condoled with the family of the deceased and once again promised to support the widow financially.
Many people in Ewu doubt this promise because a similar promise made to one Ehimen Abuya who lost his limb to the soldiers bullets was not fulfilled by the governor.
