Dr Akhabue dumps PDP for APC – He is not welcome says Ekpoma APC
Dr Felix Akhabue, also known as Joefl, has dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Thursday in Benin City.
Dr. Felix Akhabue who is the proprietor of Supreme restaurant and Pharmacy in Ekpoma was formerly Chairman of the Esan West LGA under the PDP even though nothing significant was achieved during his tenure as Chairman, where he was also Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
Dr Akhabue dumped the opposition party Thursday for the ruling party, allegedly over a promise by some ruling party functionaries that he would be eligible to aspire for the APC ticket into the House of Representatives, which it is said to be that he is sure he won’t get under the PDP because of the incumbent who is seeking another term of office.
Dr Akhabue was received by the national Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun at a rally at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium during the APC Mega Rally to make the end of the disputed LGA Council election scheduled to hold in Edo State on Saturday.
The State Party Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Edo State, Barr. Anselm Ojezua, thanked Dr Akhabue for taking what he described as “a right decision to join the party” and assured him and a handful of his co-defectors of equal rights in the APC.
The Edo State Governor, H. E Mr. Godwin Obaseki stated that Hon. Felix Akhabue is a force to reckon with and he is happy that Dr. Akhabue has finally taken the right decision.
Dr. Akhabue said “We have decided to join the All Progressive Congress(APC) because we have a Good Governor, We want to follow the line and support the Government.
“We are going back home to work and tell the people about the need to follow this Great Party APC”.
But residents of Ekpoma and users of social media were quick to fault Dr Akhabue mocking him that there is no one to listen to him as long as the Ekpoma roads have been abandoned by the APC government and Ekpoma deliberately underdeveloped by the ruling party.
Some disgruntled members of the APC, especially from Illeh in Esan West LGA, where an aspirant for the position which Dr Akhabue is suspected to be eyeing come from, have vowed to resist any attempt by the APC to give their ticket to Dr Akhabue.
“Joefl is not welcome in the APC. He will never get the APC ticket. We stepped down from the Esan West chairmanship because of the understanding that the APC will give Illeh the House of Representatives slot. Any attempt by strangers who want to reap where they did not sow so change it will be resisted by us” an APC youth leader who does not want to be mentioned told URHOKPOTA REPORTERS.
Dr Akhabue attended former Edo State University from 1990 to 1995, where he attained his first degree in Accounting; and subsequently received his Masters in Business Administration from Ambrose Alli University.
He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Nigeria.
