A concerned relative, Mr. Okosun Allende, has cried out to government, security agencies and the United Nations over attempts on his brother’s life, Mr. Ehimen Joshua Allende.
Speaking with Urokpota Reporters in Benin City, the Edo State Capital, Mr. Okosun Allende claimed that his brother, Mr Joshua Ehimen Allende, has been undergoing political persecution and threats to his life because of his political decision.
Mr Ehimen Allende, now at large, was the youth leader in Egor Local Government Area in February 2015 while Comrade Victor Enobakhare was still the Local Government Area council Chairman.
He said the political persecution and threat to Ehimen Allende’s life started in February 2015 when some members in All Progressives Congress (APC) purportedly wanted to use unlawful means to remove Comrade Aguebor, the Ward 2 Chairman from office.
“Mr. Ehimen Joshua Allende, my younger brother, and his strong youth followers vehemently resisted the illegal move of the youth by refusing to cooperate with the unlawful removal of the Ward 2 leader. My brother Mr. Ehimen Joshua Allende was therefore in their blacklist of those they will eliminate to achieve their selfish aims.” the relative stated.
Urhokpota Reporters gathered that between February and March, 2015, a series of assassination attempts were reported for Mr Ehimen Joshua Allende, according to Police and family sources.
“An assassin was sent to kill my brother in front of our house in February 20 (2015). The bullet that they shot missed target by five centimetres and hit the gate instead. He miraculously escaped.” Ehimen’s cousin said.
On March 10th, 2015, another assassination attempt was reportedly made against him close to University of Benin gate. They shot at him but the bullet hit a public bus and he escaped.
The third attempt on his life was in front of Assemblies of God Church at Oziegbe street off Iyaro Benin city. He again survived the attack narrowly and had to run away from the city for safety of his life.
But our source, who pleaded anonymity out of fear for her personal security, revealed that Ehimen Joshua Allende had gone into hiding and may have fled the country.
“Youth Leader (Mr Ehimen) life is no longer safe in Benin City and indeed in the country because those trying to kill him are highly connected. That is why he ran away from Nigeria. He went through the wilderness and may be in Italy now” Our confidential source revealed.
“Myself, I had to relocate from Benin City to the village because of this matter. Even after my brother ran away from Nigeria, the gang kept on sending us threat letters. My own family are still not safe.” Ehimen Allende’s relative lamented.
Confirmed report reaching Urhokpota Reporters indicate that the family land feud brewing in the Egharevba family has degenerated to a frightening dimension as violence has continued in the troubled family in Benin city.
A family member and grandson of Mr Egharevba, Kester Osamuyimwen Egharevba, has been shot in their family compound, making it the third shooting over the land dispute that has engulfed the family in recent times.
According to eye witness accounts, the shooting was carried out by masked men, who are suspected to be members of the Egharevba family. The young man has been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
When contacted for comment, the Police Spokesperson in the area said the matter is currently under investigation that the police will fish out the shooter.
